ECW Honors Veronica Kane with the 2025 Stevenson Award

Emerging Civil War (ECW) has selected Veronica Kane, production manager at Savas Beatie, as the recipient of this year’s 2025 Brig. Gen. Thomas Greely Stevenson Award. The Stevenson Award is presented to an individual or organization in recognition of outstanding service to ECW.
“Veronica has been the backbone of the Emerging Civil War Series at Savas Beatie for the past few years,” said ECW’s Editor in Chief Chris Mackowski. “She serves as production manager, overseeing all of our projects and making sure that every book has a smooth trip through the publishing process, from manuscript submission to delivery from the printer. There is a lot of thankless work involved in herding so many cats, so we wanted to be sure, as an organization, to make the effort to say THANK YOU.”
Kane, a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. in Business Logistics, coordinates the publications process for Savas Beatie’s books. When she’s not working, she enjoys watching football, gardening, spending time with her family, and giving publisher Ted Savas a hard time because his Vikings have yet to win a Super Bowl. (Kane is a diehard Pittsburgh Steeler’s fan.)
“I’m stunned and very appreciative to be selected for the Stevenson award,” said Kane. “It’s always nice to be recognized. I really do enjoy the work and working with Emerging Civil War and the authors.”
The Stevenson Award is named after Brig. Gen. Thomas Greely Stevenson, a Union division commander killed at the 1864 Civil War battle of Spotsylvania Court House. ECW holds its annual symposium at Stevenson Ridge, a historic property on the battlefield adjacent to the area where Stevenson was killed.
Past recipients of the Stevenson Award include Patrick Young; the Childress Agency; cartographer Edward Alexander of Make Me a Map, LLC; Sarah Keeney of Savas Beatie, LLC; Jack Melton of Civil War News; C-SPAN; historian Gregory A. Mertz; Sylvia Frank Rodrigue of Southern Illinois University Press; and publisher Ted Savas.
