The Eastern Shore.
We (that is to say the Second Delaware Regiment) don’t like to complain. Neither do we like to boast of ourselves, for, is it said that “self praise is half scandal.” We may be allowed however, to state that there are certain persons in Delaware and elsewhere who don’t appreciate the regiment and who don’t give it the credit due to it for what it has accomplished. To be sure we don’t mean to say that it has accomplished such an enormous deal, but we do say that what it came to do, it did do; viz: subdued the rebels on the Eastern Shores of Maryland and Virginia; and not only so, but the mild and conciliatory and just course pursued by the troops has had the effect of making Union men—and women too—of the people hereabout, as the vote will show which we will obtain for publication in our next issue.
“Honor or fame from no condition rise; Act well your part! There all the honor lies.” This the Second Delaware has done.
Where is the Regiment that has done more?
