This Saturday, November 8, Petersburg National Battlefield will host their annual luminary event at Poplar Grove National Cemetery. Of the over six thousand Civil War soldiers who hold their final peaceful rest in the eight acre facility less than a third have been identified. A lit candle next to each grave will help guide visitors through the evening program where stories are told of the tremendous sacrifice paid so that this nation might live. ECW’s Edward Alexander will be among the presenters, talking about Captain Charles Morey and other Sixth Corps soldiers who tragically fell on April 2, 1865, just one week before the laying down of arms spared countless others.

The event will run from 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm. Those who are interested in attending should park at Good Shepherd Baptist Church on 2223 South Crater Road in Petersburg where shuttle buses will provide transportation to and from the cemetery.
