Runaway Slave Ad
I took a trip today to the Orange County (VA) Historical Society to do some research on some of the civilians who lived on the Mine Run battlefield. In the archives, I came across the following newspaper ad posted by Absalom Row, whose family owned a farm and mill along Mine Run. The ad appeared in an 1829 newspaper:
Absalmon’s quite a character and I’ve enjoyed learning about him from Pat Sullivan’s work. Related Row’s are enterred, I believe, in the quaint cemetery of Zoar Baptist Church, who generously tolerate polite parking for the Payne’s Farm Battlefield Trail.
Or @ least one.
