ECW Weekender: A Civil War Movie List
Hey ECW Fans, how is your week going? Mine has been good, eventful, and filled with watching historic happenings in the modern world, but I’m glad it’s Friday and the weekend is ahead.
I think I’m going to need a break this weekend and will probably schedule a “movie day” at some point over the next two days. (That doesn’t mean watching movies for 24 hours, but I might watch two or a series, eat popcorn, and zone out for a while.)
Thinking about this probable stay-at-home weekend plan inspired me to look back through the ECW archives at all the movies that have been featured or reviewed on the blog through the years. And there is quite a movie list!
How many of the films/documentaries on this list have you seen? Any you might be watching soon?
A Fun Civil War Movie: The General
Civil War Political Movie Night!
Lincoln brilliantly captures the icon’s humanity
Not Your Average Lincoln Movie: Saving Lincoln
Shenandoah: A 1965 Interpretation Of American Ideas
The 25th Anniversary Film Screening of Gettysburg
Turning Points: Gone With The Wind
On Watching Gone With The Wind in 2018
Gone With The Wind: Some Thoughts (5 Part Series)
Thoughts on the Movie Union Bound
CW & Pop Culture: The Battle of New Market on the Big Screen?
CW & Pop Culture: I Will Always Love “Little Women”
A Review of Masterpiece’s “Little Women”
Mercy Street: The Miniseries That Could Have Been Worse
Ken Burns From the ECW Archives
And…I still haven’t decided what to watch…
It has been a while since I’ve done a Gettysburg marathon, or I see there is an entire documentary series about the English Civil War available on AmazonPrime if I want to try something really different but with the same keywords.
Who’s got the popcorn? Cheers for the weekend!
May I recommend this one:

I’m still trying to twist my husband’s arm into watching Harriet with me. I loved it, along with many of those listed here.
I would like to know a very complete list of Civil War films. I have updated my own list for my facebook group for Spanish Speaking people. I am always updating it. Now, there are almost 200 films (I started with 40 a few months ago), including several Spaghetti Westerns filmed in Spain. and I know there are more.
