ECW Weekender: African Americans and Civil War Medicine (Virtual Exhibit)

While looking around for some Civil War medical records this week, I found this online exhibit focusing on African Americans and 1860’s medicine.

Presented by the U.S. National Library of Medicine, the virtual resources include pages focusing on Black physicians in Union uniform, nurses with USCT units, and how their roles in the medical field prompted other societal changes. There are even resources for students in case you need something in the “at-home classroom” and lists of resources which might be helpful to researchers!

  1. I believe the National Museum of Civil War Medicine have some great presentations on their YouTube channel about blacks in the medical field as well. One was about a doctor, I remember. Just mentioning as another tiny resource to accompany this. Thanks for sharing!
