Haha… I am in OR yesterday and today reading up the secession of Florida, and Bragg is asking Leroy P. Walker if he can attack Fort Pickens on April 5th of 1861.
“Dispatch of 3d received. We are prepared for defense. Should the agreement not to re-enforce be violated, may I attack? Answer immediately” — Braxton Bragg. Pensacola, April 5, 1861
Congratulations to Chris Mackowski and Neil Chatelain for the concise telling of the story of Civil War Fort Pickens. Without doubt the podcast/ YouTube video will spark those interested in Braxton Bragg, John Villepique, Secretary of the Confederate Navy Stephen Mallory, Montgomery Meigs, John Worden, David Dixon Porter, and Captain Henry A. Adams to seek more information, particularly in regard to the involvement of those men with Fort Pickens.
Cheers
