RATHER GREEN.
A member of Company — having one day written a letter, proceeded to the letter box for the purpose of depositing in therein, the box having two apertures, he placed in in the one on the South side, when a soldier standing near by, told him that he had placed it in the wrong aperture, and the letter would consequently go south, at which he was greatly alarmed, and proceeded to the Colonel to procure the key of the box to take the letter out, and put it in the Northern aperture, so that it might be taken to its proper destination. It is useless to comment on the effect of the joke when found out.
Thanks for posting! I love these stories and this one brings back memories of the “left handed smoke shifter” from my youthful days in Boy Scouts.
