During July, Maine at War examined a rare 20th Maine Infantry photograph taken at Little Round Top in 1902, attended the July 2026 ceremony dedicating the new replica national colors of the 20th Maine, and joined the war-weary veterans of the 2nd Maine Infantry Regiment as they headed home to muster out.

A Maine resident has shared on Facebook a photograph of 20th Maine Infantry veterans and relatives who visited the regiment’s Little Round Top monument in October 1902. The silent photo actually reveals quite a bit of information.

July 8, 2006: Maine museum dedicates new national colors for the 20th Maine

After obtaining an exact replica of the national flag flown by the 20th Maine Infantry Regiment at Little Round Top, the Maine Armed Forces Museum dedicated the flag in a special ceremony on July 2, 2026.

July 15, 2006: Johnny Comes Marching Home: the 2nd Maine Infantry returns, Part I

Some 275 original two-year enlistees in the 2nd Maine Infantry Regiment received a military escort while marching to catch a homeward-bound train ride on May 20, 1863. Left behind were 120 three-year enlistees destined to serve with the 20th Maine.
