The Original Autumn Guard

We received a nice treat today from historian Mark Dunkelman:

After seeing our Autumn Guard post last weekend from Chris Mackowski about the Civil War statue in Allegany, NY, Mark sent along a photo of the town’s original G.A.R. chapter–the Ira Thurber Post 584–posed with the statue.

The original photo is held in the archives of the Allegany Area Historical Association.

By the way, if you have the chance, check out Mark’s site for the 154th New York (“the Hardtack Regiment”). Mark has some pretty nifty stuff!
