From ECW’s Archives – Black Confederates: Laborers or Soldiers?
In 2016, Emerging Civil War author Steward T. Henderson wrote a five part series, sharing his research about Black Confederates. Were they soldiers or laborers?
We thought it was a discussion to revisit during 2018 Black History Month.

I personally feel after being in Chains and slavery 4 as many generations as they could remember weather they were Confederates or laborers we have no right to judge them. All of they ever knew was the whip and serving aristocratic, stuck up, rich white people. Whether they were Confederates or laborers to me is irrelevant because that is all they knew and therefore you guys know right to judge them. Again, I tough and cuddly, and forced to use talk to text temporarily again due to health problems so please forgive any misspellings or grammar errors. I feel very strongly about this issue which is not to say no one can disagree with me, it only means I feel I’m damn right.
You sir or maam are very uneducated. Blacks were enslaved by other blacks. They were bought at the border by whites. White people were 1-2% of all slabe1 owners, with black and arab taking the lead for most slave owners
