We’ve collected some of our favorite places “off the beaten paths” to visit around Manassas Battlefield! Let us know what other places are must-see stops. (We’re always looking to add to our lists too.)

  1. Definitely recommend taking the 157th anniversary commemoration of Second Manassas battlefield tours. Best tours the NPS offers for in depth interpretation of certain parts of the battle. If your looking for an off site to check out then Chapman’s Mill about 6 miles west of the battlefield. It’s the site of Brigidier General Rickett’s Union Division desperate fight to hold off Longstreet’s Confederate Corp from getting through the Thoroughfare Gap to rejoin up with Jackson’s Corp. When going to the Manassas Battlefield Park realize there are two visitor centers to enjoy and discover. And last but not least the Bristoe Battlefield is a great place to start your tour of the Second Manassas/Bull Run battle. Just south of the city of Manassa (Depot) where Jackson’s foot soldiers arrive in the rear of Pope’s Army along the railroad and are first discovered before moving up to the Manassas Junction to destroy the Pope’s supply depot. Bring water and stay on the beaten paths the ticks are not fun!

    1. Nice! Thanks for the touring tips. I am definitely adding Chapman’s Mill to my list. I’ve done a lot of the battlefield for First Manassas, but need to make a trip sometime just to focus on Second Manassas. I love that there are two visitor centers; it really helps differentiate!
