ECW to Host Lisa Samia for a LIVE Poetry Reading on June 25

Emerging Civil War is pleased to bring you a live event coming up on June 25. Tune in on Facebook and on YouTube at 7:00 p.m. for a special evening with award-winning poet Lisa G. Samia. Lisa specializes in writing about American Civil War history, with a particular emphasis on giving voice to the nameless and faceless men who fought in the conflict. She will share some of her poems and discuss her work with ECW Editor-in-Chief Chris Mackowski.

Lisa was selected as the National Park Service Artist in Residence for Stones River, Murfreesboro, Tennessee, in 2025; the National Park Service Artist in Residence for Manassas, VA, in 2021; and the National Park Service Artist in Residence for Gettysburg, PA, in 2020—all for poetry.

She has written three Civil War poetry/essay books: The Nameless and the Faceless of the Civil War, The Nameless and the Faceless Women of the Civil War, and The Nameless and the Faceless of the Civil War: Gettysburg, Manassas & More.  This book earned her a nomination from the International Edgar Allan Poe Festival & Awards in October 2024 in Baltimore, MD.

Lisa is currently writing her fourth Civil War poetry book and continuing to write and research a biography on Asia Booth Clarke, the sister of John Wilkes Booth. Lisa has also contributed several pieces to Emerging Civil War, which you can read here.
