Question of the Week: 9/4-9/10/17

Happy Labor Day!

We take a moment to think about the work of a common soldier and the camp chores or bivouac duties.

If you were a Civil War era soldier, is there a chore or duty you would have readily volunteered for? Or what would you have wanted to avoid?

  1. Would probably like being a provost guard over some suttler’s tents…..with the possibility of some gratuities offered…….would not like any burial detail, especially after combat.

  2. Latrine duty. Had it in basic training and hated it. I’m sure it was worse in the 1860’s than the 1960’s

  3. I like Joe ,had latrine duty when in the Army no way.
Vol. for Chaplain asst. bring the word of God to the men who needed and wanted it the most .
