Civil War Echoes: The Warriors

This year marks the 45th anniversary of the release of the cult classic filmĀ The Warriors. Filmed in New York City and an adaptation of a novel based on Xenophon’s Anabasis, the film also has a tie to the Civil War.

The tie goes through Daniel Patrick Kelly, who plays Luther, the main antagonist in the film. He is perhaps best known for this famous scene from the movie’s ending, clacking bottles together and screeching “Warriors, come out to play-ay!”

Kelly’s great-grand-uncle was Father William Corby, who famously gave mass absolution to the Irish Brigade at Gettysburg. Corby later was president of Notre Dame.
