  2. Sedgwick’s a good one but let me add Lt. Col. Charles R. Mudge, executing an order that his 2d Massachusetts charge the Rebels’ position at Gettysburg on July 3, 1863 – “Well, it’s murder but it’s the order”.

  3. Elmer Ellsworth’s last words, as reported by journalist Edward “Ned” House, who was almost directly behind the colonel were, “Oh God!” Plain, simple, and probably the last words of many other Yanks and Rebels. I see it as sort of a prayer.
