“They could not hit a elephant from that distance.” Sedgwick
“let us cross over the river, and rest under the shade of the trees”
“Strike the tent”
– Michael Aubrecht
BTW: I’m posting my name as who ansered this question NOT who said the quote which we all know if Robert E. Lee. 🙂
John Sedgwick by far.
Sedgwick gets my vote.
Sedgwick’s a good one but let me add Lt. Col. Charles R. Mudge, executing an order that his 2d Massachusetts charge the Rebels’ position at Gettysburg on July 3, 1863 – “Well, it’s murder but it’s the order”.
Sedgwick’, very sadly.
Elmer Ellsworth’s last words, as reported by journalist Edward “Ned” House, who was almost directly behind the colonel were, “Oh God!” Plain, simple, and probably the last words of many other Yanks and Rebels. I see it as sort of a prayer.
on soon Mothers day . ” Mother ,Mother “. So many unknown soldiers Blue and Gray who fought the war .yet lesser known.
